Time With: Nardean

Australian-Egyptian singer Nardean has launched her latest EP, 'The Remedy', featuring the single with heartfelt positivity and a deliciously dark underbelly, 'Follow Thru', a celebration of Nardean’s unique ability to create music that is both memorable and emotionally resonant; intimately relatable yet sophisticated.

In this Time With piece, Nardean shares her story, her inspirations and her take on the importance of collaborations.

1. Tell us a bit about your story: who are you and what has your journey looked like so far?

I'm Nardean - an Egyptian Australian singer/producer. I grew up in a really strict household and didn't realise I could sing till I was about 21! And then I went ALL IN on music. I've just moved to the UK (terrifying), and am about to drop my EP 'The Remedy.'

2. Who inspires you musically and creatively?

To be honest, I am super inspired mostly by my friends and peers. I am so lucky to be surrounded by some incredible artists, writers and producers who have taught me so much! But I also have to shout out the GOAT Lauryn Hill, who taught me that *what* you sing about really matters.

3. What was the creative process behind your new music release?

The record, 'The Remedy,' was the first time I've recorded with a live band. The songs were all originally produced, but we had the idea of using a live band for a unique and cohesive sound. Once we decided that, I went to a friend of mine to chart out and arrange all the songs, and we spent 3 days in the studio recording the instruments. The musicians were all insanely talented, it was light work! After that, I went in and did all my vocals and BVs. I did this all one month before I was moving to the UK - it was A LOT. But I am so proud with how it came out!

4. What’s the best advice you’ve received during your journey?

"Be humble enough to be great." Playing small doesn't serve anyone - you have to have enough humility to care enough about giving people your absolute best.

5. How do you nurture your creativity?

Collaborating! It is the best way to stay sharp and to constantly be expanding your tool kit.

6. What do you hope your new music will reveal to your listeners?

With this project, I really hope people can feel my spirit. I genuinely wanted to make something sincere and honest. I definitely believe I achieved that, and I hope it translates in the music!

7. Are there any upcoming shows or projects we can look forward to?

I'll let you all soak this project in first before I tell you about the next one!

8. Is there any advice you want to give to new artists?

MAKE THINGS! Don't be afraid to experiment, step outside your genre. Make as much as you can, its the best way to learn who you are as an artist.
