GET TO KNOW: ODEAL

In January 2021, we shared a handpicked list of our ‘Ones to Watch’. Odeal; a talented singer/ songwriter from south-east London was featured on this list and we have no doubt that we made the right choice. His budding career demonstrates one who possesses great skill and promise.

Odeal’s ability to master afro-fusion; a blend of afrobeats and other genres such as RnB sound reflects through his afro-diasporan experience, which many Black Brits can identify with today. Being born in Germany and of Nigerian heritage explains Odeal's innate capability to transition between Alte Cruise and Afroswing and then to Alternative UK Rap and RnB; the list goes on. His brand new single, ‘Passenger’, explores his chameleonic qualities and delves deeper into his storytelling artistry which we believe will contribute to an ever-flourishing career.

Wearing his heart on his sleeve, Odeal’s emotive lyrics in ‘Passenger’ tell a story of meeting the right person at the wrong time. He brings listeners onto a course of faith that paths will cross once again for these likely lovers.

'Right passenger on the wrong journey / Lost touch but I promise I’ll find ya / Long as the wheels keep turning / Cross paths in the point of our lives yea'

Throughout the song, Odeal isn’t reluctant to share his fondness for his love interest. This is love at first sight; the start of any charming love story.

'Should have never, looked away from you / delayed the chance I had to say I do'

While mesmerized, he knows what he wants as soon as he sees her. But with a setup like this one, a tragedy at times follows. Shakespeare gave us the blueprint for star-crossed lovers yet, Odeal’s determination doesn’t waver once.

'A spark is all I need to go on / cause I’m hopeless till I find you'

The story of the star-crossed lovers is one we all know far too well. Forbidden love, very much like the forbidden fruit, creates a space of dissatisfaction until that craving is tamed. In Odeal’s case, it is to be with the one he yearns for the most. He informs listeners he’s ready to begin on a search, no matter how long it takes.

"Passenger was inspired by a common situation which most people go through, where a person finds themselves in the wrong relationship and is without the person they feel they are truly destined to be with,” says Odeal.

“The song is about a person's desire to rekindle the love they once shared with that person."

Produced by manager and friend Bukky, the new single captivates the Afro-Latin sound of the rapid rhythmic strings imbedding in Afroswing’s baseline. Musically, ‘Passenger’ exposes those who inspire Odeal to be the artist he is today. In an interview with Nuprint Magazine, Odeal’ stated his musical influences included Bob Marley, Chronixx, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Pharell Williams. All who dominate their chosen genres.

In just a short amount of time, Odeal’s passage to stardom has been impressive to witness. The 21-year-old's career has already sparked interest from various publications and has led to a feature in Nines's 2020 album, 'Crabs In A Bucket', and collaborations with Abra Cadabra in ‘On & On’.

His bold yet light-hearted presence compliments his wholesome character. After spending the day with Odeal and his team, it was captivating to witness a group of individuals who are flourishing within the music industry yet keep their focus on the importance of staying grounded and living by that.

We’re predicting that Odeal's career won't consist of just music; his artistic expression will transcend beyond. Wholeheartedly living within his truth, the young artist has everything he needs to orchestrate a long legacy.
